Sunday Stitch School

No. 167 Fringed Buttonhole stitch

This stitch is one the easiest and prettiest stitches I have made. There are two versions of holding the fringe together over the Buttonhole Bar. On the left the threads are hooked one way and on the right the opposite direction. How simple is this? Time to find your crochet hooks and threads and try it yourself.

The directions can be found at Queenie's Sunday Stitch School here

  1. It’s a pretty stitch. I also saw it in Sharon’s book, but haven’t tried it yet. I think I like the right side version best.

    • Thank you Annet. I prefer the right side also. I look at them and think the left is a shrinking violet and the other quite proud of itself LOL

  2. Beautifully made. I, too, prefer the right side version best.
The wool can be fiddly, but boy doesn’t it look good!

    • Seems we are all like-minded about the right side. I found the crochet hook size could make a ‘fiddly’ difference but Yes it does look good.

  3. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this! It’s such an ingenious way to create fur!And no trimming after…wow!

    • Thank you Ktj. A simple exercise but it may need trimming afterward. Pulling even-lengths through rarely all arrive perfectly straight. I look forward to seeing what you do.

  4. ooooh – you have given me an idea!!!! Thank you!! (you will note, by the appearance of a comment, that I can finally see!)

    • Thanks MA. Good to hear you finally got your spectacles.

  5. Another one I’ve never seen. Queenie continues to come up with fabulous unusual stitches month after month.

    • I have to agree with you Susan…not one I had seen before either.
