Sunday Stitch School – No.135 Net Stitch

I finally found how to add photos.  Hooray!!!! All I had to do was to change from the ‘Block editor”  Better late that never.

I used a fine variegated crochet thread for the first square and a two wrap French Knot to hold down the cross bars. The knots were too thick for the space – crowded.

The centre one was stitched with the same thread, but only a single French Knot – better but still wobbly.

The last was easier and I used two strands each -Yellow and Fawn- of DMC for the single-wrap knots.

The last sample on cloth, shows it added to a previous SSS – Raised Closed Herringbone, as a plant holder. 12 ply perles in Fawn and Green. It was a good way to fill in the section on the CQ.

Details of how to do this stitch can be found at the link below.

  1. The Net Stitch works beautifully as a plant holder – you use the stitches in such an inventive way. Thank you!
It is difficult to make the French Knots sit well. I agree that with fewer wraps, thinner thread and tighter tension you get the best result.
    Well done, Maureen.

    • Thank you for your words. More practise will, hopefully, improve the tension.

  2. I love the look of those silk ribbon flowers. Such a pretty spot on your embroidery!

  3. Thank you Susan. The flowers were a happenchance on an unfinished block and I added a planter box to them. They did look lonely before.

  4. Thanks for the Like, smw166

  5. Interesting experiments with this stitch. Gives me an idea for possible use on a landscape.

    • That sounds interesting MA. I’ll keep my eye on your fabulous barns.
