A sketch a day – Day 23

This was copied from a book ‘The mind that shines’ about an English woman who settled in West Australia at the end of the 19th century.  A very interesting life, Georgiana Molloy had.  She became a serious collector of local flora and an amateur botanist. A good number of her drawings and real life specimens are held in the Kew Herbarium in England.

The book painting was quite delicate in colour, and I tried to keep it looking the same.  I hope it’s viewable.

Warning.. the next lot of photos are step by step  and I’m adding the lot in one post.. back soon

  1. Nature is full of delicate colours. This is a good picture.

    • The illustration was so natural I just had to try it.

  2. I like this – I can almost see the breeze gently swirling the leaves

    • Thanks for liking it, MA

  3. Very delicate indeed, and many thanks for the info on the lady. Also saw your cabin post…wonderful, it was great to see the clouds taking shape and the landscape getting more detailed.

  4. As I didn’t know what masking fluid did for paintings, I thought some other visitors might like to see the steps. The book was really interesting.

  5. A very tender and sweet looking plant. You must have so many beautiful ones that I’ve never seen here. It’s a shame her work isn’t in a museum in Australia.

  6. Susan there may be some records in West Australia state library but I’d not heard of her until I read the book. It is a shame her work is not more broadly known here.
