Sunday Stitch School – stitch 8

I’m working from suggested stitches over at    Queenie’s Needlework

where today’s stitch can be found

Queenie is currently working from a Swedish book of stitches and kind enough to freely share her lessons with anyone interested in learning both old and new stitches.  No hassle, no keeping to a schedule; just the pleasure of learning another lovely stitch to add to your repertoire.

My work today is a group of reeds and bullrushes and the stitch used is Heavy Chain..with straight stitch stems .  There are some lovely examples from Queenie on her blog.

  1. There are even lovelier examples here on THIS blog! I think you have made great use of tension to create these bullrushes.
I am not limiting my stitch search to the Swedish books! A stitch of any nationality is welcome to be included in a lesson!

    • Thanks Queenie for the lovely compliment. I’ll appreciate any of your stitches, regardless of where they come from- I was mistaken to think they mainly Swedish.
The rushes sprang to mind when I found how the Heavy Chain was raised so nicely.

  2. Such a lovely, even twist on those stems! Beautiful grouping of plants.

    • Thanks Susan.

  3. I love the colours in this – I assume each colour isn’t a different thread and that it’s all one. Nice!

    • Yes, the thread was one long variegated length but I did fussy cut it.
