A sketch a day Day 19 + 20

Day 19 is the Coneflower water-sketch.  The flower on the left was painted wet on dry-(paper) and the one on the right was wet on wet-(paper).  It did make a difference to the use of paints.  The right one flowed while the left one had edges to the petals.  An overall wash made them more alike..

I’m using a white paged sketch book but the background appears a different colour – probably due to the light of the day… or me.

Day 20  – I sketched another tree trunk, more my own drawing than the book one I began with.   Tomorrow I’ll be adding water colours to it.

  1. Of course, to my untrained eye, I can’t see a difference between the flowers but perhaps it was more pronounced before you added the wash. As for the tree – to me it looks like it’s two trees cuddled together, dancing under the light of the moon. On that note, I know it’s time to go to bed!

    • Well I hope you had sweet dreams of dancing trees.

  2. I, too, saw two tree trunks on the dance floor. Later you dressed them both in lovely leaves…
You are learning so many things with this project, dry on wet and wet on wet!

    • Only one tree, which has a very deep groove down it’s length.

  3. I really like that tree! Having seen the finish is nice, but the shape of the tree by itself is absolutely beautiful. I’m not sure I would have felt confident adding anything at all to it! The floral piece is also quite nice, and I was interested in your experience using wet and dry paper, too.

  4. Thanks Susan. My confidence is growing with a daily project. and learning the different things used to create, like the wet/dry and masking medium is encouraging to find the results of same.
