A Sketch a day – day 5

Today I used an Agapanthus from the garden.  I mismanaged the position of the flower head – it’s not cropped on the left.  Faber Castell water colour pencils but no water used.  As the colour is quite pale, maybe I should have done so.  I enjoyed doing this sketch.

  1. Wow, I like the flowers but my eyes kept focusing on the negative spaces between them as a single shape. Good job on the clear vase, too!

  2. Agapanthus is one of my favorite flowers. Diane is right, the glas jug is beautiful, too.

  3. I don’t think ‘mismanaged’ is quite right – it’s a design element and (truth be known) is something that a lot of artists do (having their picture seemingly falling off the edge creates interest).

  4. Diane, Queenie and Mary Anne, thank you all. Diane I had advice from my DH on the back edge of the jug. If you looked closely you’d see from near the handle to stem, is a higher mark where I erased to the new edge. All criticisms are most welcome as they are learning curves.
Perspective is on a level with my colour mixing so far.
