TAST No.117 Beaded van Dyke…trial and error

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAHearing that other ladies, as well as myself,  had trouble with this stitch I decided to have another go at it but changing the method in the first sample.

I did the bullion part first, kept the work quite loose -closing the bullion a little more as I worked the right side down through the hole and back across to the left.   I found this way was easier.

The blue version is the way it is supposed to be ( well, the way mine turns out) with the bullion on the right side.  I prefer the yellow lot as the blue bullions refused to sit nicely at all and the centre is nasty.

The blue is finished off with an ordinary van Dyke stitch to hold it down and I used the blue to do the same with the yellow…

Now I’m wondering if Sharon’s DD Eve might have a place for me in her Circus as a contortionist as I had heaps of practise doing my No.117s.  There were times I wished I were an octopus.

  1. Good to see you gave it another try, I like the yellow variation, it’s something I thought about too. I just printed Sharon’s instructions, I hope my thread behaves!

    • grin… Nobody could possibly like the blue one..

  2. I’ve had a second try too, and know for sure this is NOT a stitch for me!
What a smart way to place the Bullion on the other side! You yellow ones are looking great.

    • Queenie, this stitch won’t be for me either. Maybe there is a knack for doing the stitch which I didn’t find.

  3. Your stitches are beautiful.

    • You are kind to say so.

  4. I haven’t tried this yet, will remember your advice.

    • I hope you have an easier time than me, Shirley.
