Kantha Sal

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIt is easily seen how I moved the cloth while tracing the pattern, and so, I had to move away from the lines to try to straighten the calyx a bit.  Still far from correct.

The right side photos….The dot at the top is kantha filling stitch.           The crown flower is filled with kantha booti variation where the petal is done in two colours.

At the bottom…The tear-drop shape within the calyx  and also the beaks, are done in kantha filling stitch.

The stem of the calyx base – kantha stitch

The birds – paichano or whipped running stitch.

The red bands within the birds – Bejod or non aligned kantha.

My silk for the 3rd is ready to have the freezer paper and pattern aligned for transferring the pattern, then stitching.  Hopefully I will get it started over the weekend.  I am really looking forward to it.

Kantha stitching is so relaxing and such fun to see develop.

( errors and all).

  1. It’s coming along beautifully, looking forward to see your third piece. You have lots of patience to do this dear,I know how difficult it is because I do stitch repetitive patterns on sarees 🙂

  2. Great design and the stitches all have such exotic names!
Have fun with your third piece of silk.

  3. This is very lovely 🙂 I’m also doing the Kantha SAL and enjoying it.
I love yours, it looks neat with lovely colors.
