The Stitch Files – Running and Stem stitches

I used patterns from the Hebe Cox Embroidery Technique & Design book.

I used triple detached chains for each sepal on the lower flower and only Stem stitch for the rest of the embroidery.

The stems are one row plain and one row whipped with gold thread. The smallest leaves were stitched anti-clockwise in decreasing ovals

The edge of the largest leaf was stitched anti-clockwise; the next row clockwise and I kept stitching this way to the centre.  This created a very smooth leaf.

The pink flower was stitched anti-clockwise only, working from the inside out, which made the work stumplike.  I used DMC with 2 threads at the center, then 3 threads.

The blue flower is in Stem stitch and until I followed Mary Corbet’s Long and Short stitch lesson, this is how I did long/short stitching.   I could never get the direction right  until I saw Mary’s pencil lines , which previously I’d thought a NO NO.

Stem stitch is fantastic for working with any other stitch.

So ends the last of Sharon’s free  Stitch Files and I appreciate having the chance of learning how to store my samples, as well as visual examples of Sharon’s on one of the pages.

Thank you Sharon.  I will be joining in the new files stitch-along  next year.

  1. You have gone so far beyond me….I wonder if I’ll ever “catch up”.
Give my stitching hugs to Cath please.
Wow what a long way we’ve travelled…..and the differing directions!!

  2. I will pass on the hugs to Catherine, with pleasure. I’ve often thought how far ahead of me YOU are. LOL
