Week 32 – Shell Chain stitch

First play with the stitch, using a hand dyed cotton.

The second photo shows printed velvet with the leaf half done using silk woven floss. The center and other side are completed with Back stitch.

The floss was easy to use with velvet and made a good texture.

Wisteria in rayon thread – about 10ply- and French knots.

I then added Coral, Straight and Detached chain stitches in perle 5 to complete the picture.

The thick thread sits well on the velvet.

To save damaging the velvet (because I used a large needle) I only went through all fabric every first stitch and slipped the needle between the front and backing for the second part.

The Herringbone seam was already on the block.

  1. This looks lovely Maureen – I’m looking for a stitch combination to edge some work I’m doing at the moment and I think this will suit the piece fine.
