In between stitching

Joy asked when I had time to stitch., so I am posting photos of what I do , sometimes, when I am not stitching.

My DH and I have been felling trees this week as they were close to the perimeter of our spare block and only feet away from a shed and fence.

We had to dig a hole around the base of the tree and with only a foot of free space between this and the fence used an axe to cut roots.    Then Graeme used a block and tackle to pull the tree over.  Not quite as simple as this sounds but we did it in two days and the woodpile is looking good.

This one is completely out, chopped and stacked

This one has the beginning of a hole at the base and will be felled in a few days.

There are many more trees on the block but they will stay for now.

The dark wood closest to the camera is the last of old wood.  The pile is against a garage and by the time we have another tree cut and packed we will have enough wood for winter fires for a few years.

My DH once said when the pile is no more we would travel to North Queensland.  I am trying hard to deplete it but I think changing his mind will be easier.

What amazed me was that the gloves I wore doing this work, got holes in the fingers, yet my skin is smooth enough to sew with fine threads and no snagging.
