Crochet anyone?

My daughter and family have had 3 weeks holiday in France.  Jen sent me a postcard from a mediaeval village.  They stayed at a Bed and Breakfast place that originally was owned (not as a B & B) by The Grey Sisters (Nuns).

Here are two industrious nuns sitting and crocheting.

How would you like to be sitting on the ground like this while doing needlework?  There may be a cushion beneath the ladies but I’d much rather sit in a chair which for one thing would make standing again, much easier.  I can feel my back ache, just looking at them.

There is a pattern in the hats but it is hard to see in the original photo

I am hoping Jen took a photo of a rose at this place as she said it is over 250 years old and is flourishing.  It looked like a Cecile Brunner rose.

  1. I do hope they have a cushion – I can almost feel the pain for them as they get up!!

  2. Ouch! My bottom and back and legs and whatever other parts of my old body still working would certainly complain. The have probably always done this and perhaps there bones and muscles are stronger than ours are.
This is a great picture though.

  3. I find myself more attentive when sitting on the ground, I think that may be due to the lack of comfort though!

  4. I feel uncomfortable watching them – so much for good posture…grin. I wonder how they kept those hats on. Stunning photo Maureen – lucky family to get to travel.
